Writing for children and young adults

Welcome to my Web site!

Thank you for taking the time to look me up. I realized I liked writing stories after winning a writing contest in the sixth grade.  Although I don't have that story, I do remember it was about a young family traveling to Kansas in a covered wagon.  Sixth grade was a long time ago, but writing has become more than a hobby and now I enjoy writing novels.  I have lived in Kansas most of my life.

Both of my grandmothers, Jessie Merriman and Dorothy Robb, were schoolteachers on the Kansas prairie. They taught rural children in one-room schoolhouses in the early 1940s. They knew the value of literacy and, along with my hard-working parents, encouraged me to become a lifelong reader.  I followed in their footsteps and received my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Kansas State University in 1993. I have worked as a teacher, librarian, tutor, volunteer and now as an author!  One of my passions is to organize youth writing contests.  I love inspiring young authors as I was inspired back in sixth grade!  My first novel, Logan West: Printer's Devil, is a work of historical fiction and is marketed for children 8 -12 years old.
